KAVA Legal Fund Pledges

The time has arrived to ask members to contribute to the legal fund to file an injunction to Ordinance 864 (formerly known as Bill No.2204). The legality of this new law is questionalbe and makes all vacation rentals & B&B on Ag land illegal. There are also some problems with the permitting process in general, which may prevent legal nonconforming uses being granted a certificate from the Planning Department.

This Law Suit needs to be filed by October 15, 2008. We need to raise about $500,000.

Please think about this carefully, as you may loose substantial annual income, and your property values will drop significantly, if your vacation rental is forced to shut down. Please do the math: If your vacation rental earns you $2,000 a month, that adds up to $25,000 a year and is a $250,000 income in a 10 year period. If your vacation rental earns you $5,000 a month, that's $60,000 a year, and a return of over Half A Million Dollars in 10 years. Please have your accountant check your annual rental income for 2007, then multiply this by 10 years. Is this income worth protecting?

Please make your pledges below. ONLY make realistic pledges, as we need to DEPEND on monies coming in to pay the lawyers. We need money coming in as soon as possible, so if you can pay a lump sum that would be easiest. However, we realize that this may not be realistic, so payments can be made on a monthly basis using KAVA's PayPal online system starting June 1. Legal Fund expenses are fully tax deductable.

Warmest Aloha,
